SMHS meeting: Bob Peedle's experiences

17 Feb 2016

Our February speaker was SMHS Honorary Member Bob Peedle who overcame a "lost voice" to share with us details of his lifetime of service with the Police, the Territorial Army and the Royal Society of St George.

Aged 18, Bob wanted to be a soldier but his father expected Bob to follow him into the Police service. Bob joined as a Cadet and trained under many who had served in WW2, recognising their bravery, dedication was able to learn skills which he would utilise in a career which commenced walking the beat in Harrow on the Hill, culminated with his retirement ranked Superintendent.

Bob was surprised to receive a call from the Provost Marshal (Army) requesting his services establishing a Royal Military Police Unit with the TA in Brighton. Just a week after his retirement from the Police he was donning a new uniform.

Since his second retirement in 1997, Bob has devoted his energies to his local community and was instrumental in establishing the Seahaven Branch of the Royal Society of St George, the leading English patriotic society. The Society is behind Seahaven Veterans and Armed Forces Day. Held annually on Seaford's Martello Fields the day seeks to promote and support those serving in the military, their families, veterans and cadets. This year the event is taking place on Saturday 25th June and as usual SMHS will be supporting this special day.
